Yee-Ha: Public Accounting Report Gives High Marks to Texas Universities
August 29, 2008
Forgive my adopted home-state bias (like our current President, I was bred a Yankee before coming to my senses and getting roped into the Lone Star State by a beautiful native daughter), but there's cause for horn-tooting: accounting programs at several Texas universities received high rankings from the Public Accounting Report.
University of Texas here in Austin topped the list of best undergraduate and graduate accounting programs. Texas A&M (boo, hiss; sorry, my father-in-law is a UT grad) ranked sixth in both categories. And, perhaps even more impressive given its size, Baylor University ranked within the top 25 for both undergraduate and graduate accounting programs for the third straight year. Congratulations to Charles Davis, chair of Baylor's accounting department. Davis, who also has helped me shape research and articles over the years, also deserves kudos for his program's strong emphasis on ethics -- something that too many accounting and MBA programs continue to lack.
